DUSHANBE, May 16, 2013, Asia-Plus – A meeting in commemoration of the famous Tajik and Soviet ballet dancer Malika Sabirova will take place in Dushanbe on May 17.
Organized by colleagues and friends of the prominent ballet dancer, the event will take place at the Architects’ House. Two documentaries about Malika Sabirova will be shown.
Malika Sabirova (May 22, 1942 – February 27, 1982) was the prominent Soviet ballet dancer. People’s Artist of the USSR (1974).
In 1961, Sabirova graduated from the Leningrad Choreographic School, where she had studied under E.V. Shiripina. She later perfected her technique under G. S. Ulanova and A.M. Messerer.
She became a soloist with the Ayni Tajik Theater of Opera and Ballet in 1961.
Sabirova’s best roles include Kitri in Minkus’ Don Quixote, the title role in Adam’s Giselle, and Leili in Balasanian’s Leili and Mejnun.
Her dancing was characterized by clean quick turns and light jumps; she brought special depth to her interpretations. Sabirova had toured outside the USSR.
Sabirova won prizes at the international ballet competitions in Varna (1964) and Moscow (1969). She received the Roudaki State Prize of the Tajik SSR in 1967. Sabirova was awarded two orders.
