DUSHANBE, July 3, 2013, Asia-Plus — Tajik Minister of Finance Safarali Najmiddinov yesterday met here with a mission of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), led by Mr. Toshiyuki Yokota,
Senior Evaluation Specialist
and Mr. C.C. Yu, ADB’s Country Director for Tajikistan, according to the Ministry of Finance (MoF)’s Secretariat.
The sides reportedly discussed issues related to economic development of Tajikistan as well as goals and objectives of the ADB mission on assessment of the Tajikistan support programs.
Coordination of joint efforts on implementation of the AIDB-sponsored programs and projects aimed at enhancing Tajikistan’s energy, transportation and agrarian sectors, improving social services and mitigating disaster effects was a major topic of the meeting.
In the course of the talks, the sides also discussed issues of implementation of future joint programs and the necessity of coordination of relations of Tajikistan with ADB, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank (WB) and other international financial institutions, the Secretariat said.
Tajikistan joined ADB in 1998, and to date, the institution has approved total assistance of around $980 million in concessional loans, grants and technical assistance to the country. ADB’s operations benefit the population by reducing isolation, increasing communication, broadening access to electricity, improving social services, and creating more income generating opportunities.
