DUSHANBE, July 9, 2013, Asia-Plus — As of July 1, 2013, the number of public servants in Tajikistan was estimated at 18,000, Grez Qosimov, the deputy head of the Public Service Directorate under the President of Tajikistan, announced at a news conference in Dushanbe on July 9.

“Before the end of this year, 240 public servants will reach retirement age,” Qosimov said, noting that over the first six months of this year, 57 public servants have been retired for age reasons.

According to him, current average monthly wage of public servants in Tajikistan is 1,000 somoni (equivalent to nearly 200.00 USD).

We will recall that Tajikistan’s lower house (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of parliament on April 24, 2013 endorsed the bill requiring amendments to the country’s Labor Code.  The bill provides for mandatory rotation of government officials.
