The CAYO was established under the framework of the EU funded Project  “Strengthening the Musical culture in Central Asia  through regional Cooperation, Integration and International Networking” implemented by CESVI.

The Orchestra will perform the concerts in Dushanbe after a Central Asian tour in the main cities of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.  After the concert in Tajikistan, the Orchestra will have a 12 days European tour performing in Italy and Belgium.

The Central Asian Youth Orchestra is composed by 54 musicians selected by the best music boarding schools in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan in order to promote the exchange of musical experiences and cultural integration in Central Asia with the possibility to create job opportunities, in particular for the most vulnerable social groups and disabled people.  The Orchestra Conductor is the Maestro Gerardo Colella, an Italian composer and conductor with many years of experience as Conductor in Europe and Central Asia.

CESVI (Cooperation and Development), an independent Italian foundation established in 1985, working for global solidarity and cooperation between countries, and present in Central Asia since 2001, is implementing this project with the objective to contribute to the development and promotion of traditional and classical music in Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Europe by strengthening regional cooperation, integration and European networking.

The activities of the Project are implemented in partnership with the Art School for Children “M. Aminzoda” in Tajikistan, the Republican Pre Professional Musical Boarding School “M. Abraev” in Kyrgyzstan and the State Institution “Complex Musical College – Music School for talented children” in Pavlodar, Kazakhstan; and in collaboration with the Ministries of Culture and Education of the three mentioned countries.

The European Union is committed to sharing its achievements and its values with countries and peoples beyond its borders.  To this end the EU is active in Tajikistan since 1992 and provides approximately Euros 25 million annually in development assistance.
