DUSHANBE, July 29, 2013, Asia-Plus — Tajikistan has surplus electricity in summer and it is ready to supply up to 170 million kWh of electricity to neighboring Kyrgyzstan by the end of the summer and autumn season, Abdullo Qurbonov, the deputy head of Barqi Tojik (the state-owned utility responsible for generation, transmission, and distribution of electricity in Tajikistan), told journalists in Dushanbe on July 29.
“If they apply to us, we can supply up to 50 megawatt of electricity to Kyrgyzstan during the summer season,” said Qurbonov, “Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan have reached an agreement on exchange of electricity in the winter and the summer seasons.”
He also noted that over the first six months of this year, Tajikistan has supplied 349.7 million kWh of electricity to Afghanistan, which was 159.4 million kWh more than in the same period last year.
Electricity has reportedly been supplied to Afghanistan via the 220 kV Sangtuda-Puli Khumri power transmission line and the 110 kV power transmission line.
“The price of one kWh of electricity supplied to Afghanistan via the 220 kV power transmission line was 3.64 cents, while the price of one kWh of electricity supplied to Afghanistan via the 110 kV power transmission line was 2.80 cents,” the Barqi Tojik official noted.
According to him, Tajikistan is currently conducting negotiations with Afghanistan on supplying electricity at one price – 3.64 cents per one kWh.
Over the same six-month period, Tajikistan has reportedly generated 7 billion kWh of electricity, which was 264 million kWh fewer than in the same period last year.
