DUSHANBE, August 7, 2013, Asia-Plus — Tajikistan is taking efforts to increase cement productions.

A new cement plant constructed in the Yovon district, Khatlon province is expected to be introduced into operation in late August, according to the Ministry of Energy and Industry (MoEI).

Tajikistan-China joint venture, Huaxin Gayur Cement Co., Ltd, has constructed this plant with annual capacity of one million tons of cement.

“The construction of the plant has practically been completed and it just remains to complete the commissioning process,” an official source at a MoEI said.

A total cost of the project is 100 million U.S. dollars and the plant will create some 1,000 new jobs, the source added.

The Yovon cement plant will work on coal and coal will be delivered to the plant from the Fon-Yaghnob and Ziddi coalfields.

Huaxin Gayur Cement Co., Ltd has reportedly used the latest technologies to build the plant and it will meet regional environmental requirements.

Huaxin Gayur Cement Co., Ltd was established by Huaxin Zhongya Investment (Wuhan) Co., Ltd, the subsidiary of Huaxin Cement Co., Ltd, and Gayur Limited Liability Company.  Huaxin Zhongya Investment (Wuhan) Investment Co., Ltd assumes the 75% ownership interest and Gayur Limited Liability Company owns 25 percent of the shares in Huaxin Gayur Cement Co., Ltd.

According to the annual report of Huaxin Cement Co., Ltd for 2012, the construction of the Yovon cement plant started on September 15, 2011 and it was expected to be put in commission in July this year.

We will recall that a cement plant with capacity of 100,000 tons was introduced into operation in the Mastchoh district, Sughd province last year.  They plan to raise its annual capacity to 1 million tons.

According to the statistical data from the MoEI, eight cement plants with a total capacity of 1.5 million tons now operate in Tajikistan.

Tajikistan’s largest cement plant is OJSC Tojikcement (Dushanbe cement plant) with rated capacity of 1.1 million tons. This plant has not been in operation since January 1, 2013 due to lack of natural gas.

Tajikistan’s annual requirements in cement have sharply increased in connection with construction of the Roghun hydroelectric power plant (HPP), highways and other facilities of the nationwide significance.
