DUSHANBE, August 7, 2013, Asia-Plus — Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan are establishing a special commission to discuss issues related to 36 disputable facilities located in Kyrgyzstan but used by Tajikistan, according to Tajikistan’s State Committee on Investments and State-owned Property Management (GosKomInvest).
The commission is expected to start its work with visiting Kyrgyz districts bordering Tajikistan. “There are no disputes on these facilities but it is necessary to solve the issues of integrity of the facilities and protection of property rights of Tajikistan on Kyrgyz territory,” a source at GosKomInvest said, noting that such Tajikistan-owned facilities are located only in Kyrgyz border areas. “There are no such facilities in territories of other counties.”
“The point is that there had been no clearly defined borders between the republics during the Soviet times and many facilities of one republic could be located in the territory of another republic and this had not been a problem, but these disputable issues must be solved,” the source said.
He further added that that issue had nothing to do with recent report that the Kyrgyz authorities had took the oil refinery that had previously been operated by the Tajik side and the oil-and-gas deposit located in the Arka area of Kyrgyz Leilek district that had previously been developed by the Tajik side.
