DUSHANBE, December 5, 2013, Asia-Plus — Dushanbe Mayor Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev yesterday received Colonel Yevgeniy Tubol, commander of the 201st Russian military base in Tajikistan.
The two discussed issues related to holding joint cultural and humanitarian activities and observance of legality by servicemen of the Russian military base, Shavkat Saidov, a spokesman for the Dushanbe mayor’s office, said.
Colonel Tubol assured Mayor Ubaidulloyev that Russian servicemen will strictly observe the provisions of the government-to-government agreement on the presence of the Russian military base in Tajikistan and respect the laws and customs of Tajikistan, the spokesman said.
We will recall that by Russian president’s decree published on October 18, 213 Colonel Yevgeniy Tubol was appointed commander of the 201st Russian military base deployed in Tajikistan, replacing Colonel Sergey Ryumshin.
The Russian military base was officially opened in Tajikistan in 2004 under a previous agreement, which was signed in 1993, and hosts Russia’s largest military contingent deployed abroad.
A total of some 7,000 Russian troops are stationed at three military facilities collectively known as the 201st military base – in Dushanbe, Qurghon Teppa, some 100 kilometers from Dushanbe, and Kulob, about 200 kilometers southwest of Dushanbe.
