DUSHANBE, December 6, 2013, Asia-Plus – Tajik parliamentary delegation, led by Safarali Rajabov, the head of the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) Committee on Economics and Finance, is currently in Turkey to learn their Turkish colleagues’ experience in budgeting, Muhammadato Sultonov, a spokesman for the Majlisi Namoyandagon, told Asia-Plus Friday morning.
According to him, the delegation members include the Majlisi Namoyandagon deputies Safarali Gulov, Lutufllo Saidmurodov, Beg Qurbonov, and Ashourbek Rasoulov.
Their talks with Secretary-General of the Grand National Assembly (Turkey’s parliament) Irfan Neziroglu were reportedly focused on the issues related to exchange of experience between parliamentarians of the two countries in using information technologies and communications both countries.
While in Ankara, Tajik MPs also held talks with Mehmet Ersoy, the head of the Internal Affairs Committee, Grand National Assembly of Turkey.
Tajik parliamentarians’ visit to Turkey will conclude on December 8, Sultonov said.
The Grand National Assembly of Turkey is the unicameral Turkish legislature. It is the sole body given the legislative prerogatives by the Turkish Constitution. There are 550 members of parliament (deputies) who are elected for a four-year term by the D”Hondt method, a party-list proportional representation system, from 85 electoral districts which represent the 81 administrative provinces of Turkey (Istanbul is divided into three electoral districts whereas Ankara and Izmir are divided into two each because of their large populations).
Since the 2002 general elections, an absolute majority of the seats have been held by members of the Justice and Development Party (AK Party), which leads a single-party government.

The current Speaker of the parliament is Cemil Cicek from the AK Party, who was elected on 4 July 2011 for the first two years of the legislature. He is the 25th Speaker of the parliament of Turkey succeeding his party colleague Mehmet Ali Sahin.
