DUSHANBE, January 15, 2014, Asia-Plus — An enlarge meeting of the Tajik government, presided over by President Emomali Rahmon, is being held in Dushanbe today to review the results of the past year’s work.
According to the president’s official website, Emomali Rahmon criticized the country’s banking system for poor performance.
The president reportedly expressed concern about increasing untargeted expenses of the National bank of Tajikistan (NBT), Tajik central bank’s inertia on attraction of foreign investments and poor support for domestic entrepreneurs.
Rahmon set specific tasks to remove existing shortcomings.
He also expressed dissatisfaction with serious shortcomings existing in activities of Amonatbonk (Tajikistan’s savings bank).
Speaking at the meeting, Minister of Energy and Water Resources Usmonali Usmonov noted that seven investment projects to the total amount of more than 600 million USD were currently being implemented in the country’s energy sector.
Minister of Industry and New Technologies Shavkat Boboyev noted that 322 new industrial enterprises were introduced into operation in Tajikistan last year. They reportedly created 9,632 new jobs.
Minister of Transport Khairullo Asoyev said that 1.156 billion somoni had been spent so far for bringing the country out of the transportation isolation.
Minister of Agriculture Qosim Qosimov noted that Tajikistan produced more 1.115 million tons of potatoes and some one million tons of cereals in 2013.
