DUSHANBE, August 9, 2008, Asia-Plus  — Within the framework of the project for providing urgent support to the frost-affected population through providing mental hospital with generators and fuel for them, seven large mental hospitals in Tajikistan have received power generators with capacity of 40 kW each and spare parts for 3,000 hours of operation, according to the Dushanbe Office of the European Commission Humanitarian Aid Office (ECHO.)

The generators have been distributed to the mental hospitals in Dushanbe, Roudaki, Kulob, Qurghon Teppa, Khujand, Isfara, and Tursunzoda.

The source noted that in June 2008, the hospitals received 34,000 liters of diesel fuel (some 5,000 liters each) and tanks for fuel storing that will give them opportunity to make adequate preparations for the winter and ensure regular operation of the generators.

All expenses on the wiring work, including cable and switch procurements, have been paid by the project, which is implemented by the Netherlands Red Cross and Tajikistan’s Red Crescent Society under financial support of the ECHO.
