DUSHANBE, July 31, 2008, Asia-Plus — Issues related to military cooperation between Tajikistan and the United States will be the focus of a meeting of President Emomali Rahmon with acting US Central Command chief, Lieutenant-General Martin Dempsey, who is arriving in Tajikistan for a short visit today.
Davlat Nazriyev, head of the MFA information department, told Asia-Plus today that President Emomali Rahmon will meet with Lieutenant-General Martin Dempsey today afternoon. They will discuss state and prospects of military cooperation between Tajikistan and the United States as well as the present situation in Afghanistan, the MFA spokesman said.
The US Central Command chief is also scheduled to hold talks with Defense Minister Sherali Khairulloyev.
