DUSHANBE, June 9, 2014, Asia-Plus — An official visit of Latvian President Andris Bērziņš to Tajikistan is starting on June 10, a representative of the Tajik Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) announced at a briefing in Dushanbe on June 9.
According to him, a number of documents on cooperation between the two countries in the field of education as well as in combating terrorism, extremism and drug trafficking will be signed within the framework of the visit.
A conference of representatives of business communities of Tajikistan and Latvia will take place on the sidelines of the visit. 54 entrepreneurs will represent the Latvian side at the conference. Latvian President Andris Bērziņš and Tajik Prime Minister Qohir Rasoulzoda will inaugurate the business forum.
The diplomatic relations between Tajikistan and Latvia were established on May 11, 1994. Tajikistan’s Ambassador to Latvia with residence in Minsk (Belarus) is Qozidavlat Qoimdodov and Latvia’s Ambassador to Tajikistan with residence in Tashkent (Uzbekistan) is Igors Apokins.
According to data of the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan, a two-way trade between Tajikistan and Latvia last year valued at US$35.0045 million. This consisted of Tajikistan’s exports to Latvia estimated at US$3.9247 million and Tajikistan’s imports from Latvia worth US$31.0798 million.
