DUSHANBE, June 25, 2014, Asia-Plus – By government’s decree electricity prices in Tajikistan are expected to rise 15 percent beginning on July 1 this year.
Members of the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) have discussed this issue during consideration of a loan agreement between Tajikistan and the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) on reconstruction of the Ravshan electricity substation.
A regular sitting of the fourth session of the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the fifth convocation, presided over by its head, Shukurjon Zuhurov, was held on June 25.
According to information posted on IsDB’s website, Tajikistan has received the financing in the amount of US$13,070,000.00 from the Islamic Development Bank toward the cost of the “Reconstruction of the Ravshan Electricity Substation in Tajikistan”, and it intends to apply part of the proceeds to payments for goods, works, related services and consulting services to be procured under this project. This project will be jointly financed by Tajik power holding, Barqi Tojik.
We will recall that for the last time, Tajikistan raised electricity prices in April 2012.
Current electricity prices of one kWh of electricity are 11 dirams for residential customers, 26.63 dirams for industrial and non-industrial enterprises, 10.63 dirams for federally funded institutions, electrical transport, public utilities and sports complexes, and 1.88 dirams for reclamation vertical wells and water pumping stations.
