ISFARA, July 13, 2014, Asia-Plus — The presidential adviser on national security, Sherali Khairulloyev, has visited the family of Vorukh resident, Safoiddin Sharopov, who was killed in the  violence that took place near Tajikistan’s Vorukh exclave inside Kyrgyzstan on July 10.

“Sherali Khairulloyev expressed deep condolences the Safoiddin Sharopov family,” Sughd first deputy governor, Jumaboy Sanginov, told Asia-Plus in an interview.

We will recall that the 36-year-old Safoiddin Sharopov was killed and at least seven other Tajik nationals were wounded on July 10 as Kyrgyz border guards opened fire on local citizens in Tajikistan’s Vorukh exclave inside Kyrgyzstan.

Some Tajik sources say it is still unknown why Kyrgyz border guards crossed into Tajik territory and opened fire on Tajik farmers who were engaged in repairing a water supply system, which is located 500 meters far from the disputed areas along the Tajik-Kyrgyz border.

Tajik-Kyrgyz talks on resolving a border conflict resumed in the Tajik northern city of Qairoqqum on July 11.  Tajik Deputy Prime Minister Murodali Alimardon and his Kyrgyz counterpart, Abdyrakhman Mamataliyev, reportedly agreed that a joint Tajik-Kyrgyz commission would investigate the July 10 violence near Tajikistan’s Vorukh exclave.

Both sides blamed each other for starting an incident on July 10 in which one Tajik national was killed and seven others, including two border guards, were injured.

The Kyrgyz side later claimed that Tajik border guards fired mortars and a grenade launcher toward Kyrgyz territory after the incident.  Kyrgyz authorities say one Kyrgyz border guard was injured and hospitalized.

Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan have been locked in a tense border disputed for months around Vorukh, which is part of Tajikistan, but due to past redrawing of borders, it exists as an exclave some 20 kilometers inside Kyrgyzstan.
