DUSHANBE, July 22, 2008, Asia-Plus  — The present sanitary-epidemiologic situation in Dushanbe, and problems of water supply and passenger transport services were a focus of a July 21 meeting of the Dushanbe mayor’s office, presided over by its head, Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev.

According to Shavkat Saidov, a spokesman for the Dushanbe mayor, the head of the Dushanbe center for sanitary and epidemiologic supervision, Ziyovuddin Afghonov, and the head of the Dushanbe agency for environmental protection, Bahrom Mahmadaliyev, reported on the present sanitary situation in Dushanbe and implementation of the schedule of removal of domestic waste from the city.

The mayor expressed dissatisfaction with the present sanitary situation and work of relevant municipal services.  He demanded at the meeting that the situation should be put right in the shortest time and set precise tasks to bring the situation back to normal, the spokesman said.

Following complaints by the city residents about water supply problems, the mayor asked the Dushanbe chief prosecutor inspect Dushanbe’s municipal waterworks, Dusahnbevodokanal (DVK), to investigate into the reasons behind the water supply situation.

The meeting also discussed issues related to preparations for a summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) that will be held in the Tajik capital next month, Saidov said.
