Rahmon concerned over the youth crime wave

DUSHANBE, July 10, 2014, Asia-Plus —  Tajik President Emomali Rahmon has expressed concern about the youth crime wave.

According to the Tajik president’s official website, he stated that at an enlarged meeting of the board of the Prosecutor-General’s Office that took place here on July 10.

In a statement delivered at the meeting, President Rahmon reportedly stresses that prosecutors should make contribution to maintenance of peace and stability in society.

He noted that compared to 2000 an average wage of prosecutors has increased 50 times – from 20.00 to 1,000.00 somoni.

131 million somoni of budgetary funds were spent from 2005 to 2013 for construction of new buildings for prosecutor’s offices, purchase of transport and technical means for prosecutor’s offices, the president said.

Emomali Rahmon reportedly expressed concern about inadequacy of measures taken to combat illegal circulation of land.

He also stressed that criminal proceedings have been instituted against 18 prosecutors over the past five years.

Rahmon also expressed dissatisfaction with work of tax agencies.  As of June 1, they reportedly owed 650 million somoni to the national budget.

Speaking at the meeting, President Rahmon also expressed serious concern about the youth crime wave in the country.  In 2010, 530 crimes were committed by minors while in 2013, the number of such crimes increased to 725, the president said.

As of July 1 this year, 65 young people under 18 years of age have served their jail terms in penal colonies and more than 3,500 young people under the age of 30 have served their jail terms in penal colonies, Rahmon noted.
