DUSHANBE, September 16, 2014, Asia-Plus — Tajikistan has exported 946 million kilowatt-hour (kW/h) of electricity for 31 million U.S. dollars over the first eight months of this year, which is nearly 40 percent more than in the same period last year, according to the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan.
Gains from electricity exports have reportedly risen more than 30 percent compared to the same period of the last year. In January-August 2013, Tajikistan exported 682 million kW/h of electricity for 23.5 million U.S. dollars.
Tajikistan now delivers electricity to Afghanistan and Kyrgyzstan. Afghanistan now receives 5.5 million kW/h of electricity from Tajikistan per day and Kyrgyzstan receives 1.5 million kW/h of Tajik electricity per day.
Tajikistan sells electricity to Afghanistan at the rate of 3.7 cents per one kW/h and to Kyrgyzstan at the rate of 2.0 cents per kW/h.
This year, Tajikistan is expected to export 1.4 billion kW/h of electricity: 800 million kW/h of electricity to Afghanistan and 600 million kW/h of electricity to Kyrgyzstan.
Last year, Tajikistan exported 968 million kW/h of electricity for 33 million U.S. dollars.
