DUSHANBE, July 8, 2008, Asia-Plus  — The 37-year-old resident of Khujand Bakhtiyor Barotov who escaped from the Khujand-based high-security penal colony on July 1 was detained in Khujand yesterday evening, according to the Ministry of Interior.

The source at a MoI said that new criminal proceedings had been instituted against Barotov on escape charge and he will get additional jail time for escape. 

We will recall that Bakhtiyor Barotov, who was serving his 20-year sentence in the penal colony for killing, and Russian national Rasim Bashirov, who was serving a 19-year sentence for being member of the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan (IMU), attempted to escape on July 1.  Rasim Bashirov was killed, while Barotov managed to escape.
