DUSHANBE, November 18, 2014, Asia-Plus — The Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) ranks Tajikistan 34th among 135 nations in terms of charity.

Compared to the last year’s report Tajikistan rose 30 places.  In the last year’s charity ranking, Tajikistan was ranked 64th.

Meanwhile, Turkmenistan is leading the way in Central Asia when it comes to acts of generosity, according to the study of global generosity released by the Charities Aid Foundation on November 18.  Turkmenistan is ranked 23rd.

Turkmenistan is followed by Uzbekistan, which is ranked 28th.  Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan are ranked 83rd and 101st respectively.

There are 135 countries involved in the report, ranked based on the proportion of the population who volunteer, help a stranger or give money to charities.

Overall, the report showed that more people across the world are giving their time to good causes and performing acts of kindness.

Overall the index found that the United States and Myanmar drew as the most generous countries in the world, with Canada third, Ireland fourth and New Zealand fifth.  The next five most generous countries were Australia, Malaysia and the UK (in joint seventh), Sri Lanka and Trinidad and Tobago respectively.  Yemen was bottom of the World Giving Index with Venezuela just above them.

The World Giving Index (WGI) was compiled by the Charities Aid Foundation, using data gathered by Gallup, and ranks 135 countries in the world according to how charitable their populations are.  The first edition was released in September 2010.  The survey found that around the globe happiness was seen as a greater influence on giving money than wealth.

The Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) is a registered UK charity.  Its head office is located in West Malling, Kent with a second office in London.  CAF provides services and assistance to UK and international charities and their donors, as well as promoting donation to charity generally.  CAF offers many services to charities in the UK and abroad, including help with fund raising, insurance, consultancy, and loans and grants.  As a registered charity it does not seek to provide a profit and aims to reinvest all funds generated back into the charitable sector.
