Russia cancels trains to Tajikistan and some other CIS nations

Date:

DUSHANBE, December 9, 2014, Asia-Plus — OJSC Federal Passenger Company, which is subsidiary of JSC Russian Railways, reportedly cancels passenger trains to a number of CIS nations beginning on December 14, 2014.

Russia media sources report passenger trains will be canceled to Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Ukraine for a year.

Representative of Russian Railways was quoted as saying that the decision to cancel the trains has been made as part of adjusting the 2014- 2015 schedule to low profitability.

Previously, the schedule for passenger trains was imposed in summer, but from now on it will be done in December.  “But the schedule’s route remains, so a train can be added, if needed,” the company representative said.

Meanwhile, trains to Belarus, Moldova, Uzbekistan and Abkhazia have not been cancelled.
