DUSHANBE, January 7, 2015, Asia-Plus — A regular sitting of Tajikistan’s lower house (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of parliament that is being held today is expected to discuss the draft law on oil and gas.
MP Ismoil Talbakov, who is one of authors of the law, says they were studying experiences of Russia and Tajikistan while drafting the law.
“Today, one may say with certainty that the draft law has been endorsed on the whole and the government has offered more than 30 amendments to improve it,” the parliamentarian noted.
According to him, the adoption of this law will allow Tajikistan to minimize its dependence on oil and natural gas of neighboring countries.
“Besides, the law will speed up the process of attraction of foreign investments for development of our oil and gas sector,” Talbakov noted.
Muhammadato Sultonov, a spokesman for the Majlisi Namoyandagon, says the session will also discuss amendments proposed to the country’s laws on protection of child rights, licensing of separate types of activity, and advocacy.
Parliamentarians are also expected to ratify an investment agreement between the government of Tajikistan and the limited liability company KKN-Regar on construction of oil refinery in the industrial zone of the city of Tursunzoda.
