DUSHANBE, April 21, 2015, Asia-Plus  – Tajik Interior Minister Ramazon Rahimzoda on April 20 received a delegation of the Ministry of Public Security of China (MPS), led by Lu Shaou (phonetically spelled), chief of the MPS department.

According to Tajik Interior Ministry press center, the two discussed issues related to state and prospects of further expansion of cooperation between the Tajik Interior Ministry and the MPS in addressing modern challenges and threats such as terrorism, extremism, separatism, transnational crime, and trafficking in drugs and weapons.

Rahimzoda reportedly appreciated China’s technical and material support for development of the Tajik Interior Ministry.

A special attention was given to implementation of a memorandum of cooperation between the Interior Ministry of Tajikistan and the Ministry of Public Security of China signed in Dushanbe on May 27, 2002.   the source said.

The two reportedly also discussed the issue of conducting joint exercises for subunits of the Ministry of Interior of Tajikistan and the Ministry of Public Security of China in mountain areas.

The Ministry of Public Security of the People”s Republic of China (MPS) is the principal police and security authority of the mainland of the People”s Republic of China and the government agency that exercises oversight over and is ultimately responsible for day-to-day law enforcement. As the main domestic security agency in the People”s Republic of China, the MPS is the equivalent of the National Police Agency in Japan or national police in other countries.  It also controls and administers the People”s Armed Police.

Responsible for public security, the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) is part of the State Council, China’s chief administrative body and principal police and security authority.

MPS is made up of several agencies which deal with operational and administrative aspects of national policing. Essential operational agencies include: National Security; Economic Crime Investigation; Border Control; Criminal Investigation; Fire Control; Prison Security; Traffic Control; International Police Cooperation; Drug Control; and Counter-terrorism.
