DUSHANBE, July 21, 2015, Asia-Plus — Three people were killed and three others were reported missing on the night of July 21 as mudslides buried a minivan, two trucks and an excavator in the Vodkhud jamoat of the Vanj district in the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO).

Niloufar Aslamshoyeva, a spokeswoman for GBAO governor, says a mudslide buried a minivan in the Vodkhud jamoat on Tuesday night.  “Three persons were killed and two others were reported missing,” Aslamshoyeva said.

According to her, another mudslide hit the village of Lugad in the Vodkhud jamoat on the night of July 1.  Two trucks and one excavator were reportedly buried by the mudslide.  The driver of one of trucks has been reported missing,” the spokesman said.

Search operations for missing persons are under way.

Aslamshoyeva says torrential rain on July 19-20 caused a series of mudslides that blocked the main highway from Dushanbe to Khorog near the village of Kurgovad in the Darvoz district of Gorno Badakhshan.  The work on repairing the highway is under way.

Meanwhile, the GABO administration press center reports mudslides have destroyed two pedestrian bridges in the Darvoz district and damaged several new buildings in the village of Barrushon in the Rushan district.  Besides, a mudslide reportedly occurred in the Navobod jamoat in the Shugnan district.
