DUSHANBE, September 18, 2015, Asia-Plus — Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Aslov yesterday met here with Mr. Peter Burian, the European Union Special Representative for Central Asia.

According to the Tajik MFA information department, the two discussed state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and the European Union.

They also discussed regional cooperation and security, water and energy problems and some other issues being of mutual interest.

On the latest developments in Tajikistan, Mr. Burian reportedly confirmed EU’s support for Tajik government’s efforts to ensure law and order in the country.

He also noted that the European Union remains reliable partner and supporter of Tajikistan on the way to stability, democratic reforms and prosperity, the source said.

Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Tajikistan, Ambassador Hidajet Biscevic, also attended the meeting.

The Special Representative is tasked with promoting EU political coordination in Central Asia, monitoring the implementation of the EU Central Asia Strategy and supporting regional security in the region.
