DUSHANBE, October 1, 2015, Asia-Plus — The Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) today ratified a grant agreement between Tajikistan and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on the project for improvement of Dushanbe International Airport.

Presenting the agreement, Tajik Minister of Transport Sherali Ganjalzoda noted that under that agreement, the Government of Japan extended nearly 17.5 million U.S. dollars for construction of cargo terminal and installation of Instrumental Landing System (ILS) and Precision Approach Lighting System (PALS) at Dushanbe International Airport.

According to him, the project management consultant was selected last November and an agreement was signed between Dushanbe International Airport and consortium of Japanese companies, namely Nippon Koei CO., LTD, Japan Airport Consultant, Inc, and Daiken Sekkei Inc

The new cargo terminal will allow considerably increasing cargo transportation volumes and farm produce exports as well as creating ramified route network for transit flights, the minister added.

Tajikistan is a landlocked country and aviation plays a vital role for it in terms of movement of passengers and goods, as well as for connecting it with other countries.
