DUSHANBE, March 6, Asia-Plus  — The Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan’s upper chamber of parliament) has passed a resolution under which six villages of Gorno Badakhshan’s Darvoz district  – Sayod, Sayodi Nav, Khur, Ghurum, Vujun and Sabzikharv — are transferred to jurisdiction of the Tavildara district.

The 14th session of the Majlisi Milli, presided over by its head, Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev, was held on March 6.

Speaking at the session, the Majlisi Milli member also President of the Academy of Sciences Mamadsho Ilolov noted that such a decision would be in contrary to the Constitution of Tajikistan under which the territory of the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO) cannot be changed without the consent of the GBAO regional legislature (Majlis).

However, during the session, it was noted that the mentioned villages were under jurisdiction of the Darvoz district but they are located outside administrative borders of the region, and by the majority of vote the resolution was adopted.
