DUSHANBE, June 20, 2016, Asia-Plus – Deputy Prime Minister, Azim Ibrohim, has paid a working visit to the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO).
According to the Prime Minister Secretariat, the main purpose of the visit was for Ibrohim to get acquainted with the pace of construction and rehabilitation works in the region, mitigation of effects of natural disasters, and construction of jubilee facilities.
While in Gorno Badakhshan, Ibrohim also visited the site for construction of a small hydropower plant in the Yazgulem jamoat of the Vanj district.
He reportedly expressed satisfaction with the pace of construction of residential building for victims of the last year’s earthquake. 38 residential houses were reportedly destroyed completely in the village of Gudara, Bartang Valley in the Rushan district. To-date, they have reportedly built 20 new houses and construction of the remaining 18 houses is nearing completion.
Construction of a small hydropower plant with capacity of 125 kW is nearing completion in the village of Pasor, Bartang Valley.
Construction of residential buildings for victims of natural disasters in Shugnan and Ishkashim district is also under way.
Meanwhile, Ibrohim sharply criticized the limited liability company “Panj” for improper wok on lowering the water level in an artificial lake that was created as a result of blockage of the Ghund River water level in the Shugnan district last year.
We will recall that mudslides and floods caused by rains and melting glaciers destroyed almost 60 houses, trade and cultural facilities, electricity lines, and an irrigation system in the Shugnan district of Gorno Badakhshan over the few days in July last year.
The latest mudslide on July 19 cut the flow of the Ghund River and damaged some parts of a local village. An artificial lake was created as a result of blockage of the Ghund River. The families whose houses were destroyed were moved to a safer area.
Damage caused by the mudslides and floods was estimated at $3 million. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.
