DUSHANBE, June 22, 2016, Asia-Plus – A session of the Council of the National Coordinators of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Member Nations has taken place in the Uzbek capital of Tashkent.

The SCO national coordinators have reportedly discussed the agenda of the 16th session of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization that will take place in the Uzbek capital from June 23-24.  

The SCO national coordinators have also completed work on the Tashkent declaration for the 15th anniversary of the SCO, the first five-year program for implementation of the SCO strategy for the period until 20205 and some other documents related to expansion of the SCO.

The Tashkent summit is expected to adopt more than ten joint documents.  Besides, the session will consider the issues of the admission of India and Pakistan to the Organization.  

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization currently has six full members — China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.  Afghanistan, Belarus, India, Iran, Mongolia and Pakistan are six observer states, and SCO’s dialogue partners include Armenia, Azerbaijan, Cambodia, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Turkey.

The Organization’s six full members account for 60% of the land mass of Eurasia and its population is a quarter of the world”s population.  With observer states included, its affiliates account for about half of the world”s population.
