DUSHANBE, June 24, 2016, Asia-Plus – The Chambers of Commerce and Industry (CCIs) of Tajikistan and the Russian Federation have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on establishment of the Tajik-Russian Business Council.
The document was inked by Sharif Said, the head of Tajikistan’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and his Russian counterpart Sergey Katyrin in the Uzbek capital of Tashkent, on June 23 on the sideline of a session of the Board of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Business Council.
According to Tajikistan’s CCI press center, the two sides noted that the Tajik-Russian Business Council would play an important role in building an efficient dialogue between interested companies and enterprises of the two friendly countries for the propose of promoting further expansion of trade and economic cooperation between them.
Priorities of the Tajik-Russian Business Council for the foreseen future reportedly include implementation of specific bilateral projects in sectors like energy, mining, metallurgy, mechanical engineering, construction, agriculture, education, tourism, transportation, health care, telecommunications, construction, as well as light, food and processing industries.
Meanwhile, the SCO Business Council Board discussed the development prospects of the SCO Business Council activities, including the priorities and main directions of expansion of cooperation in the near future through the implementation of joint projects aimed at developing the economic potential of the region. In addition, various aspects of cooperation in the sphere of support of small business and private entrepreneurship, as well as attracting foreign investment were discussed.
The SCO Business Council was established within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Shanghai (China) on June 14, 2006 in order to facilitate development of economic cooperation within the SCO, promote direct relations and dialogue between business and financial communities of the SCO member nations, provide for their involvement in all-round business cooperation in the trade-economic, financial-investment, scientific-technological, power engineering, transport, telecommunications, agricultural and other spheres.
