DUSHANBE, July 12, 2016, Asia-Plus – Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan have agreed to expand cooperation in extradition and mutual legal assistance.

This issue was discussed in the Kyrgyz capital of Bishkek yesterday at a meeting of Tajik Prosecutor-General Yusuf Rahmon with his Kyrgyz counterpart, Ms. Indira Joldoushbayeva, according to the Prosecutor-General’s Office of Tajikistan.

In the course of the talks, the two reportedly discussed a broad range of issues related to further expansion of bilateral cooperation between the prosecutor-general’s offices of the two countries.

Rahmon and Joldoushbayeva, in particular, discussed bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan in combating international terrorism and religious extremism, transnational organized crime, and drug trafficking, a source at the Tajik Prosecutor-General’s Office told Asia-Plus in an interview.

They also discussed the issues of protection of rights of Tajik citizens in Kyrgyzstan and Kyrgyz citizens in Tajikistan.

The two sides reportedly agreed to continue bilateral cooperation in the framework of an agreement between the Prosecutor-General’s Offices of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan on legal aid and cooperation that was signed in the Kazakh capital of Astana on August 27, 2015.

Tajik chief prosecutor heading a delegation of the Prosecutor-General’s Office of Tajikistan has been on a working visit to Kyrgyzstan since July 10.

The delegation members include Tajik Main Military Prosecutor Safarali Mirzozoda, Khatlon chief prosecutor Nasrullo Mahmoudzoda and other officials.

While in Bishkek, they will also get acquainted with activities of Kyrgyzstan’s Prosecutor-General Office.

We will recall that Kyrgyz Prosecutor-General Indira Joldoushbayeva heading a delegation of Kyrgyzstan’s Prosecutor’s Office was on a working visit to Tajikistan in late November last year.
