DUSHANBE, February 20, Asia-Plus  — Humanitarian aid is continuing to arrive in Tajikistan, which has been hit by a humanitarian crisis caused by extreme weather and severe electricity shortages.

Mamourjon Sharipov, the deputy head of the Committee for Emergency Situations (CES), told Asia-Plus Tuesday afternoon that two transport aircraft A-300 with humanitarian aid provided by Saudi Arabia have landed at the Dushanbe airport over the past two days.

According to him, six other transport planes with humanitarian aid from Saudi Arabia will arrive in Dushanbe during this week.

“Each of those planes will deliver 10 tons of food products to Tajikistan,” the Tajik emergencies official said, adding that in all, Saudi Arabia will deliver 80 tons of foodstuffs to the country.

Sharipov noted that the ministry of economic development and trade would distribute the humanitarian aid.
