DUSHANBE, August 3, 2016, Asia-Plus – Issues related to diversification of economic ties between Tajikistan and India were reportedly discussed here on August 1 at a meeting of Mr. Sharif Said, the head of Tajikistan’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI), with Mr. Shri Somnath Ghosh, India’s Ambassador to Tajikistan.
According to the CCI press center, the meeting focused on seeking new opportunities for Tajikistan’s economy.
Sectors like hydropower, transportation, agriculture, minerals, information technologies, as well as food, light and textile industries were outlined as areas, which could drive a two-way trade between the two countries.
“Our main goal is to diversify Tajik-Indian economic ties,” said CCI head. “Tajikistan is open for reliable cooperation.”
According to him, potential for trade and economic cooperation between Tajikistan and India has not been exhausted and there is considerable room for expansion of economic ties.
Ambassador Ghosh, for his part, noted that the Indian side was ready to expand cooperation with Tajikistan in the fields of fruit and vegetable processing and high technologies. “Our main task is to create environment that would help business work in comfortable conditions,” Indian diplomat said.
