Tajikistan and Russia, building a line of their relationship, from the very beginning proceeded from the understanding of community long-term fundamental interests of the two peoples, said President of Tajikistan Emomali Rakhmon on Tuesday, August 30, at the ceremony of opening a new building of the Russian-Tajik (Slavonic) University in Dushanbe.
"Time proved the correctness of our choice in favor of the construction of the interstate relations of the two countries in the format of strategic partnership", – said Tajik leader.
He noted that between the two countries have established and maintained, including at the highest level, regular political dialogue, in the focus of constant attention of which is the entire set of issues of the Tajik-Russian relations.
E. Rakhmon stressed that "close cooperation between the two countries in defense and security in the complex is an important factor in maintaining regional stability."
Tajik leader has described Russia as an "important economic partner", which "occupies one of the leading positions in the system of foreign economic relations of Tajikistan".
In addition, the President of Tajikistan noted the special place of the humanitarian sector, in particular education and science, in the system of bilateral Tajik-Russian relations.
"The youth of Tajikistan is annually sent to study in Russia. Today in Russian universities have been enrolled more than twenty thousand of our citizens, including fifteen thousand on a quota basis," – he said.
E. Rakhmon stressed the "great importance of Russian language to Tajik society. He noted that Russian language "for our society is not declarative, but a real character."
"In the Constitution of the country Russian language is assigned the status of language of interethnic communication", – he reminded.
The President of Tajikistan noted that the state standards of primary, secondary and higher vocational education in the Republic of Tajikistan Russian language has the status of a compulsory subject: it is studied in all secondary schools across the country since the second grade.
The President of the RT stressed that last year Tajik government has adopted a new six-year Program for the study and teaching of Russian language.
"In this aspect, there remains the issue of ensuring our educational institutions with appropriate teaching staff, textbooks and teaching. In this case we rely on the support and assistance of our Russian friends. For this reason we from the first days of cooperation between our countries in the field of education have repeatedly appealed to the Russian side, including the highest level", – said Tajik President.
