DUSHANBE, February 4, Asia-Plus  — The OSCE Academy in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan will host a series of training seminars entitled “Media and Democracy” for Central Asia’s journalists this year.  

Ms. Zhanyl Bokonbayeva , senior assistant to the OSCE Academy for researches and trainings, told Asia-Plus that this program includes four seminars scheduled for March, June, September and November this year.

According to her, the program aims to promote raising professionalism of journalists and make them better informed of a role media plays in development of democracy       

            The program consists of four practical sessions (writing informational materials, news and  analyses) with use of international standards of quality of journalism (impartiality, reliability of information) as well as lectures on a role of media in democracy (media and politics, role of media during elections, and etc), Ms. Bokonbayeva said.  

According to her, the leading trainer of the program is Mr. Andre Loersch, trainer of independent consultancy network Media4Democracy, and the program will be drawn with regard for professional interests and requirements of students.     

Full-time journalists, who are citizens of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, may participate in the seminars.  Travel and accommodation expenses as wells expenses on registration with the Visas and Registration Department of all training participants are covered.
