Chairman of Tajikistan’s lower house (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of parliament, Shukurjon Zuhurov, is expected to hold talks with his Russian counterpart Vyacheslav Volodin, Chairman of State Duma (Russia’s lower chamber of parliament), in St Petersburg, Russia this week.

Shukurjon Zuhurov heading Tajik parliamentary delegation will leave for St Petersburg tomorrow for participation in sessions of the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly and the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Parliamentary Assembly, Muhammadato Sultonov, a spokesman for the Majlisi Namoyandagon, told Asia-Plus in an interview.

While in St Petersburg, Zuhurov is also scheduled to hold talks with his Russian counterpart Vyacheslav Volodin and members of Moldavian parliamentary delegation, Sultonov added.  

Vyacheslav Volodin is a Russian politician and an aide to Russia's President Vladimir Putin. The former Secretary-General of United Russia was a deputy in the State Duma from 1999 until 2011.  2010 — 2012 he was Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation.  On 23 September 2016, President Vladimir Putin proposed the candidacy of Vyacheslav Volodin to the post of Chairman of the State Duma.   Volodin assumed office on October 5, 2016.

The State Duma is the lower house of the Federal Assembly of Russia (legislature).  The State Duma forms committees and commissions. Committees are the main organs of the House involved in the legislative process.  They are formed, as a rule, according to the principle of proportional representation of parliamentary associations.  Chairmen of committees and their first deputies and deputies are elected by a majority vote of all deputies of the parliamentary representation of associations.

The Majlisi Namoyandagon (Assembly of Representatives), Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament with 63 members elected for a five-year term, 22 by proportional representation and 41 in single-seat constituencies.  Shukurjon Zuhurov has been Chairman of the Majlisi Namoyandagon since March 16, 2010.
