Tajikistan and Armenia have signed nine new cooperation documents during Tajik president’s official visit to Armenia.  

Tajik President Emomali Rahmon began his official visit to Yerevan yesterday with a meeting with his Armenian counterpart Serzh Sargsyan.

According to the Tajik president’s official website, the two sides discussed state and prospects of further expansion of friendly relations and mutually beneficial cooperation between their countries.  Their talks were followed by extended-format negotiations.

Tajik leader reportedly expressed satisfaction with the current level of cooperation between Tajikistan and Armenia.

Rahmon and Sargsyan noted that bilateral and multilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Armenia within regional and international organizations created favorable opportunities for solving many international issues, including addressing many modern challenges and threats, including terrorism and extremism.  

Rahmon outlined sectors like hydropower, mining light and food industries, pharmaceutics, agriculture, transportation and tourism as areas that could drive the bilateral trade between Tajikistan and Armenia.  

The sides also pointed to the necessity of using opportunities of free economic zones for launching joint ventures.

Rahmon and Sargsyan also touched upon a number of regional and international issues being of mutual interest.  

At the end of the meeting, Emomali Rahmon invited Serzh Sargsyan to pay an official visit to Tajikistan at any time convenient for him. 

The negotiations resulted in signing of nine cooperation documents: 

 

–           A government-to-government agreement on mutual travels of citizens;

–           A government-to-government agreement on air communication; 

–           A program of cooperation between the foreign ministries of Tajikistan and Armenia for 2018-2019;

–           A government-to-government agreement on cooperation in the fields of communications and mail service;

–           A government-to-government agreement on mutual recognition and comparability of education qualification, scientific degrees and academic ranks;

–           A government-to-government agreement on cooperation in the field of health care;

–           A government-to-government agreement on cooperation in the field of sports and work with youth;

–           An agreement on cooperation between the prosecutor-general’s offices of Tajikistan and Armenia.

–           An agreement on cooperation between the Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan and the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia; 

 

To-date, the legal foundation of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Armenia has included more than 30 documents.  

Emomali Rahmon and Serzh Sargsyan gave the joint press briefing on the results of the negotiations.

While in Yerevan, President Rahmon also held talks with Ara Babloyan, Chairman of the National Assembly (parliament) of Armenia.
