The Ministry of Internal Affairs finds out whether the Tajik policemen extorted money from German scientist

Date:

According to the tourist, incident happened at the monument to Somoni. There have already been similar cases.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Tajikistan started an investigation following the publication of Radio Ozodi, in which a foreign tourist told that local policemen who were on duty at Somoni monument extorted money from him.

Professor Stohr Uwe did not expect that his vivid and pleasant impressions of traveling around Tajikistan would be spoiled by the extortion of the guards of order, writes Ozodi. On August 23 at the monument to Ismoil Somoni in the center of Dushanbe, police officers approached to him and in broken Russian said that he must first pay them money, and then take photos of the monument. "I asked them why they extort money in broad daylight, which they answered – you Americans have money – they do not peck at the money", – scientist-traveler said to radio correspondent on August 25.

Policemen lagged behind him and allowed to photograph the monument only after the scientist told them that he was not an American, but a citizen of Germany.

Stohr Uwe denied reports in social networks that the Tajik police allegedly detained him for wearing shorts, radio "Ozodi" reports.

As press secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Tajikistan Umarjoni Emomali informed “AP”, the Ministry of Internal Affairs instructed to check this fact. The investigation will last for about a week, after that results will be reported. According to Emomali, the investigation will be conducted on the fact of publication, since an official statement from a German citizen about extortion to the police authorities has not been received.
