Retired officers permitted to return to the service

Date:

Tajikistan’s lower house (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of parliament has endorsed amendments proposed by the government to the country’s law on military service.

A regular sitting of the Majlisi Namoyandagon, presided over by its head, Shukurjon Zuhurov, took place on October 2.

Presenting the bill to lawmakers, the first deputy chief of the State Committee for National Security (SCNS), Mansourjon Umarov, noted that retired officers are now permitted to return to the service.

According to him, the amendments apply only to officers who resigned voluntarily for one reason or another.

“The law does not apply to officers who were dismissed due to negative motives,” Umarov added.

The parliament also ratified an agreement on cooperation between member nations of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) in transportation of military and other formations, their movables and military products.

According to Tajik Defense Minister Sherali Mirzo, the agreement is of significant importance for Tajikistan especially against the backcloth of deterioration of military and political situation in many countries of the world.  He also noted that the agreement stipulates that the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation will be engaged in ensuring safety of railways of the CSTO member nations.
