President Emomali Rahmon yesterday met here with Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, brother of the Emir of the State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, according to the Tajik president’s official website.  

The two sides reportedly discussed a broad range of issues related to state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Qatar in the fields of health, industry, energy, air communication, banking, and tourism.   

The Tajik president’s official website says that Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani said in the course of the talk that he arrived in Tajikistan by order of his brother to express condolences to Emomali Rahmon on behalf of the leadership and the people of Qatar on the passing of his brother Nouriddin Rahmon.  

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Tajikistan and the State of Qatar were established on December 13, 1994, and the Embassy of the State of Qatar started functioning in Tajikistan in November 2012.  In July 2013, the State of Qatar appointed its Ambassador to the Republic of Tajikistan.  Tajikistan opened its Embassy in the State of Qatar in December 2012.  In May 2013, the Ambassador of the Republic of Tajikistan to the State of Qatar was appointed.
