Experts from CIS member nations meet in Russia to discuss joint efforts to combat religious extremism

Date:

A conference formally titled “Positive Practice of Countering Religious Radicalism: View from Russia” will take place in the Russian city of Orenburg on February 28.

The event is reportedly expected to bring together experts from Tajikistan (Dushanbe), Kyrgyzstan (Bishkek), Kazakhstan (Almaty, Aktobe and Uralks), and Russia (Moscow, Kazan and Orenburg) to discuss the results of cooperation between the CIS member nations in combating religious extremism and define new tasks taking into account increasing threats emanating from Afghanistan, according to the organizing committee.

Organized by the Regional Spiritual Board of Muslims of Orenburg Oblast, the “Commonwealth of Peoples of Eurasia” Research Association and Orenburg State University, the meeting will also discuss forms and methods of propagation in social networks and practice of work on preventing religious radicalism among migrants.

The meeting participants will also exchange views on a role of religious organizations, non-government organizations and families in addressing common cross-border threats of radicalism.
