DUSHANBE, October 19, Asia-Plus  – A two-day conference formally titled “Women and Sports” opened in Dushanbe is ending today.

 The conference, staged by the Committee for Youth Affairs, Sports and Tourism and the National Olympic Committee (NOC), have brought together known Tajik sportswomen, as well as representatives from the youth committee and different sports federations.  Ms. Natalia Sipovich, chairwoman of the Women and Sports commission of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), is taking part at the conference.

The deputy youth committee head, Ms. Shahnoza Benazir, said that the conference has discussed issues related to drawing attention of the public to sports problems and drawing local women into sports.  

 According to figures provided by the youth committee, 32,529 people, including 1,249 young women, now go in for sports in Tajikistan.
