Rajabboy Ahmadzoda, the governor of the northern Sughd province, has visited the city of Buston (formerly Chkalvsk) to get acquainted with the process of work on building the National Flag Square in the city.
A 50-meter flagpole to hoist the country’s three-color flag, measuring 14 meters by 7 meters, will be erected in the center of the square that will be two hectares in size, according to the Sughd government press center.

150 various social, educational and cultural facilities will be built n Buston on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Tajikistan’s Independence, which will be celebrated in September 2021.
Buston (formerly Chkalovsk or Chkalov) is a city in northern Tajikistan. It is located in Bobojon-Ghafourov district of Sughd province, between the cities of Khujand and Ghafourov.
Buston is a city of provincial subordination, administratively subordinated to the provincial capital of Khujand, not to the district capital of Bobojon-Ghafourov.
The population of Buston on January 1, 2018 is estimated at 32,100 and with the Palas settlement, which has the population of 3,000 and is administratively subordinate to Buston, the population of Buston is estimated at 35,100.
As a result of its involvement in the processing of uranium ore mined nearby, Chkalovsk was a closed city until the collapse of the USSR.
Khujand Airport is located in the city.
On February 1, 2016 the Government of Tajikistan decided to rename Chkalovsk into Buston. It was the last city in Tajikistan with a Russian name.
