Tajik parliament endorses agreement on financing construction of vehicle assembling plant in Dushanbe

Date:

Tajikistan’s lower house (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of parliament (Majlisi Oli) has ratified an agreement on financing construction of vehicle assembling plant in Dushanbe.  The agreement on financing construction of the plant to assemble public passenger and freight transport in Tajikistan was signed between the Government of Tajikistan, Avesto Group (Tajikistan) and Ulasim Ic Ve Dis Ticaret Anonim Sirketi (Turkey) in August this year.

A regular sitting of the Majlisi Nnamoyandagon, presided over by its head, Shukurjon Zuhurov, took place on October 17.

Presenting the agreement to lawmaker, the head of the State Committee on Investments and State-owned Property Management (GosKomInvest), Farrukh Hamraliyev, said that 20 million U.S. dollars would be spent for construction of the plant.

“Tajikistan and Turkey will invest equal stakes in the project – 10 million U.S. dollars each,” Hamraliyev said, noting that the plant would create 240 new jobs.

Two Tajik-Turkish joint ventures — Akia Avesto Automotive Industry and City Service Ltd – will be involved in assembling (Akia Avesto Automotive Industry) and maintaining (City Service Ltd) the public passenger and freight transport, Hamraliyev added.

It is to be noted that Tajikistan already has a certain experience in this area.  A joint Tajik-Turkish plant to assemble Turkish buses Akia, AKIA AVESTO, was officially introduced into operation in Dushanbe on February 14, 2018.

The AKIA AVESTO plant that was built in Dushanbe’s Gulbuta area operates on the basis of a cooperation agreement signed between the State Unitary Enterprise (SUE) “Nasbi Naqliyoti Barqi va Ducharkha” (Tajikistan) and Turkey’s Akia Company.

All necessary technologies and equipment for implementation of this project have been delivered to the country from Turkey.  The plant reportedly has an annual capacity of 250-300 vehicles.
