As part of his working trip to the northern Sughd province, President Emomali Rahmon today visited the city of Guliston (formerly Qayroqqum), according to the Tajik president’s official website.
Emomali Rahmon reportedly attended an official opening ceremony of the city’s rehabilitated water supply network, which provides more than 15,000 residents of the city with safe drinking water.
The president’s website says the water supply system has been rehabilitated under the direct support of the government within the framework of the project, Rehabilitation of Water Supply Systems of Northern Cities of Tajikistan – I.
23 million somoni have reportedly been spent on rehabilitating the Guliston water supply network, which is 12,384 meters in length.
Speaking at the ceremony, Rahmon expressed satisfaction with the quality of works performed.
Guliston is a city in north-western Tajikistan. It is located in Ghafourov district of Sughd province, at the western tip of the Qayroqqum Reservoir. In 2016, the Qayroqqum Reservoir was renamed Bahri Tojik (Tajik Sea). Guliston is a city of provincial subordination, administratively subordinated to the provincial capital of Khujand, not to the district capital of Ghafourov.
The population of Guliston is estimated at more than 15,000 for the city proper and more than 40,000 for the city with the outlying communities
