The Tax Committee under the Government of Tajikistan intends to permit its employees to do business. The Tax Committee considers that this measure will allow reducing corruption. Meanwhile, experts believe that only few of tax officers will start business while others will resort to extortion.
The Tax Committee plans to take a number of measures to combat corruption among its employees. Thus, it intends to provide them with apartment and land plots for housing provide financial help to them.
Moreover, the Tax Committee plans to permit its employees to do business in the event of the absence of a conflict of interest.
The Tax Committee senior representatives consider that these measures will help prevent corruption and personnel hemorrhage.
Meanwhile, local experts believe that if tax officers are permitted to do business, only few of them will start business while others will resort to extortion.
Under the country’s laws on the public service and combating corruption, public servants may not occupy another post nor engage in entrepreneurial activity, except scientific and creative.
