Kyrgyz president does not plan to cancel his working visit to Tajikistan

Date:

Citing Kyrgyz president’s press service, Kyrgyz media reports say negotiations on a working visit of President Sooronbai Jeenbekov to Tajikistan are under way.

According to the Kyrgyz president’s press service, the time and venue of the meeting of the heads of the two countries is currently being specified.

Radio Liberty’s Kyrgyz Service, locally known as Radio Azattyk, says the negotiations on a working visit of the President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbai Jeenbekov to Tajikistan are under way.  The two sides reportedly plan to discuss state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.  They also plan to discuss the border problems.

Recall, Jeenbekov noted on July 4 that much progress had been made during negotiations between the two governments.

“Productive talks are taking place in Tajikistan. During my official visit to Tajikistan, President Emomali Rahmon and I arrived upon a shared opinion and shared goals,” Jeenbekov was cited as saying by Kyrgyz news agency AKIPress

Official Dushanbe is also continuing to make preparations for a meeting of Tajik President Emomali Rahmon and his Kyrgyz counterpart Sooronbai Jeenbekov, which is scheduled to take place in the Tajik northern city of Isfara on July 26.

It is not a matter of postponing or cancelling the meeting of the presidents, an official source at the Tajik government told Asia-Plus in an interview.  According to him, the presidents will observe the situation on the spot.
