Tajik and Kyrgyz leaders encourage residents of border villages to friendship and good-neighborly relations

Emomali Rahmon and Sooronbai Jeenbekov have asked residents of border areas not to succumb to provocations and promised to address border problems. 

On Friday July 26, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon and his Kyrgyz counterpart Sooronbai Jeenbekov met with residents of Tajikistan’s Vorukh exclave in Kyrgyzstan and the Kyrgyz village of Ak-Sai.  They talked to local residents on the both sides of the border encouraging them to good-neighborly relations and friendship, according to the Tajik president’s official website.

A number of activists of Vorukh and Ak-Sai reportedly participated in a meeting with the presidents. 

The presidents urged local authorities and activists to carry out explanatory work among the population for the purpose of preventing provocations and clashes.  Rahmon and Jeenbekov also noted that an intergovernmental commission is currently solving issues of border areas.   

Meanwhile our partner, 24.kg news agency, citing the information policy department of Kyrgyz President’s Office, says the heads of state noted the readiness of the sides to take measures to remove all difficulties existing in border areas.   

Kyrgyz President Sooronbai Jeenbekov emphasized that Kyrgyzstan values fraternal relations with Tajikistan.  

During a meeting with residents of the Kyrgyz village of Ak-Said, Jeenbekov said that he has taken the situation along the border under his personal control.

The two leaders have continued talks in the Tajik northern city of Isfara, near the Kyrgyz border, and then they will continue talks in Kyrgyzstan’s city of Cholpon-Ata.
