Rescuers of the Sughd emergency management agency have saved three people from drowning in the Syr Darya River in Khujand, according to the Emergencies Committee under the Government of Tajikistan.

“Rescuers saved a 37-year-woman, her five-year-old daughter and her 12-year-old sister who were swimming in a prohibited place,” Ms. Umeda Yusuf, a spokeswoman for the Emergencies Committee, told Asia-Plus in an interview.

According to her, the rescued were brought ashore and given the first aid.  “The woman refused hospitalization,” Yusuf said.

Rescuers of the Sughd emergency management agency reportedly continue patrolling the shoreline of the Syr Darya Rivers.

Over the past week, rescuers have reportedly saved eight people from drowning in rivers and ponds of the province.
