DUSHANBE, April 10, 2009 Asia-Plus  — In a report released at a press conference in Dushanbe, the chief of staff of the Drug Control Agency (DCA), Fakhriddin Jonmahmadov, revealed on April 10 that Tajik law enforcement agencies have seized more than 1,050 kilograms of narcotics over the first three months of this year.

A totaled included 266 kilograms of heroin, 105 kilograms of raw opium and 678 kilograms of cannabis.  Compared to the same period of last year, overall volumes of heroin and raw opium seized in January-March this year have decreased by 36 and 86 percent respectively, while the volume of cannabis seized over the report period has increased by 36.6 percent, the DCA official said.

On the activities of the counternarcotics agency in January-March 2009, Jonmahmadov said the drug control officers have seized some 130 kilograms of drugs, including some 33 kilograms of heroin, some 13 kilograms of raw opium and 84 kilograms of cannabis, over the report period.
